"Simpson's" animator with tuba

Did anyone get to see the end of the second ep of "The Simpsons" tonight (9 pm EST ep)? There was David Silverman, an animator, who drew a sketch of Bart. Behind him on the screen was a common BBb rotary tuba with the bell down.

Now it may be that tuba was there for only decoration, as most older ones are. Buy maybe he or some other animator actually plays when they have nothing else to do.

Would anyone out there know about this animator and the tuba?
