Favorite non-tuba classical composer

Post by bort »

Who is your favorite "classical" composer who didn't write anything involving the tuba? I'm thinking mostly people who lived before the tuba was invented, and/or wrote for other instruments (like piano). Liking the composer because his work was later adapted for tuba use later (e.g., Bach) doesn't count.

I'll go first -- mine is Beethoven. Not sure why, but just about anything written by him is pleasing to my ears.

My favorite composer is always changing, but for this question my answer would be Chopin, because not only did he not write for tuba, but wrote very little for any instrument other than the piano.

Alexander Scriabin ... one of music’s most visionary composers
Technically he included tuba in his orchestral works, but you won't find the music in any excerpts...
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

J.S. Bach -- the only perfect composer. The fact that his music works SO well for our instrument is just testament to his and its genius.
