Conn sousas

I may have asked this before, but what do the numbers means with the Conn sousa models (ie. 14K, 20K, 36K, 38K, etc.)? :tuba:

Sousas: Conn, Holton, Jupiter, King, Yamaha. All BBb.
Tubas: King, Martin, Reynolds (one w/Olds bell). All BBb.

I thought Conn was kind of notorious for their determination to lose track of things? Anyway, if you're looking at newer instruments other than the 20K, it's worth checking to see if it's really the indicated (older) Conn, or if it's a King.
