So thanks for previous advice, I ordered a replacement 36x6 finger button for my Holton Collegiate Sousaphone from Mouthpiece Express...
seems a good fit, but I hadn't realized the washer-like felt pad that stops the thing from going CLANK CLANK wouldn't come with it.
What is that part called? Where can I get some, or can I hack a replacement with like... I dunno, felt and an exacto knife?

Re: padding for finger buttons
Any repair tech should have those as they are used when aligning the downstroke, so it will probably need to be a certain thickness.

Re: padding for finger buttons
Well, I kinda of ordered it online so I wouldn't have to find a repair tech for a simple missing thingy
I think the finger button I was using as a temporary replacement wasn't quite the right size, but there was no real ill effects, so I suspect it's pretty tolerant of thickness. But what's the name of the part I'm looking for?

Re: padding for finger buttons
That's commonly referred to as a fingerbutton felt. The thickness of them and the also the thickness on the felts and corks on top of the piston can make a World of difference in how the piston ports align with the casings. It's almost impossible to just order some and put them in and expect good results. Take your horn to a qualified technician.kirkjerk wrote:....But what's the name of the part I'm looking for?
