Totally off topic

Post by josh wagner »

For my senior english paper i did "How Jazz influenced modern music" of course i got an 96% on it :) but i have to do a power point presentation about it. I was wondering if anyone had any clue where i could find songs for the early 20s and some through time that would closely sound the same and or show examples from the songs from the early 20s all the way up to :rap: :S

Thank you for any input :D

jazz was first recorded in 1917........a band called "the original dixie land jazz band".........however another jazz record was not recorded until 1922. Little jazz actually recorded in the early to mid 20's exists. most pieces have terrible sound quality and have a woodblock part instead of a drummer.

however, the ken burns jazz set ..........disc 1 has some very very early jazz recordings, the set is great but a little pricey ($50ish)

if not you can look for early recordings of:
Oliver Creole
JElly Roll MOrton
Louis Armstrong(the Hot 7 recording have a tuba)
and so on

good luck on your paper

i know someday i would like to write a disseration on jazz.

also................
the ken burns jazz set
is a great history of the music that flows through each style and genre over a course of 5 discs.

(Who was mistfied by a 100 year old Sousaphone, not a Helicon, a bell forward Sousa that sounded as if gods created it, that the band used in one of their concerts here  :D )
Boy, I'd be mystified too--according to my references, the bell-forward sousaphone was introduced by Conn in 1908!

TUBACHRIS85 wrote:"Preservation Hall Jazz Band." They have been in New Orleans since almost the begining of the 20th century, and they still are.
Actually the Hall was started in 1961 by Al Jaffe, helicon player and caucasian-american yankee from Pottsville, PA, who went to high school and played in the band with my father.

They do keep the old-style music alive though, and are well worth any effort. Al's son is one of the bass players now.

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Hey Josh,
I'm not sure what a power point presentation is but wouldn't it be cool to combine a verbal presentation combined with snaches of relevant songs played on your tuba.I would enjoy that.
