Band Standards
Now that all off our spring concerts are finished, my high school wind ensemble has about a week or so just to sight read stuff until the end of the school year. I'm wondering what "standards" for band a high school group should play. So far our list for sight reading is:
1. Incantation and Dance
2. American Salute
3. Variations on America
4. Apocalyptic Dreams
What others should we add?

Festive Overture is a great challenge. Lot of fun to play, too.
I would hold off on Variations on America for sightreading purposes. Ives doesn't make sense even after practicing it for 3 months. Sightreading it is asking for a train wreck.

Re: Band Standards
I wonder if high school band has changed so much from the early 70s that they wouldn't have seen these. We played them multiple times when I was in high school. Still good choices.Rick Denney wrote:English Folk Song Suitephoenix wrote:What others should we add?
