British high pitch

Post by jsswadley »

How high was the old British high pitch? What frequency was the A? Can a tuba at high pitch be pulled out far enough to reach A at 440? Responses appreciated, John

Hi from England,

The old high pitch, or philharmonic pitch was A=452. Some tuning slide sleeves were used in the old days but not very well.

You also need to be able to pull the valve slides out to support the new pitch, though on most horns this is not a problem...
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?
