Doc: Seeking Opinions: St. Pete vs Luzern vs Mack 210

Postby bloke » Fri May 25, 2018 2:10 pm

Doc wrote:I am seeking opinions and experience regarding how the Wessex Luzern, Mack 210, and the St. Pete 202 compare to each other. My reference point will be the St. Pete, as I I have plenty of experience with them (and I like the newer ones with working valves), but no experience with the others (FWIW, I thought the HB 192 was a great instrument when I tried it years ago).

Thank you for your kind and highly detailed responses!

I would like to draw your attention to the John Packer JP379B.
.787" bore...very nice playing...very good intonation...very high build quality...

Isn't this the same tuba and if so the Packer Sterling name isn't exclusive.

that one has a different 4th valve wrap, and it clearly not the same. Many people make a similar tuba, the one that Tuba exchange is different than the one Wessex sells, and that's different than the Packer. I've owned two of the three I just mentioned.

I appreciate this professional post posted professionally in the proper forum.

This model is a bit small for what I’m seeking, although I’m sure it’s a fine instrument.

I'm interested in a Mack 210 as compared to the Luzern. The Mack is cheaper and I think it's cheaper than the Packer also.

Anyhow, since the topic is opinions on the Wessex, St. Pete and Mack, it would be great to hear opinions from the owners of those instruments.

Your calculus is off. It is .797
https://www.johnpacker.co.uk/prod/jp379b-sterling-rotary-tuba-bb-in-lacquer

There seems to be a great price difference europe<>usa.
On the johnpacker site it costs 3650 pounds equals 4100 euro or not much cheaper than the german smaller lookalike from above.
But topping it all is the belgian dealer who needs 6000 euro for the same tuba. The 379BB is sold for 4900?

He's getting the info from the packer website
https://www.jpmusicalinstruments.com/pr" target="_blank ... ng-bb-tuba

as for pricing, always contact a dealer directly, they will give you a better price than what you see on the internet

JP is RETAILER in the UK, and is a WHOLESELLER worldwide...
...so you'll see some of their webpages with RETAIL prices on them (aimed at UK-based consumers).

Here's the worldwide website:
https://www.jpmusicalinstruments.com/

I tend to not advertise my prices, because I don't think it's fair to agree to a Minimum ADVERTISED Price (M.A.P.) and not abide by that agreement.

QUOTING a price to ONE PERSON, though, is not "advertising", so...
