Seriously, if you have a Rudy tuba, DON'T crease the bell.

Please do not email the company and say, "bloke said that...."

I'm not saying that Rudy bells are anything-in-particular, but I am only saying that ALL of them that I've worked on - over the past four decades - (to me) BEHAVE AS IF they are "work hardened"...yes, including all of those which were creased for the very first time.

It takes (me) several times as much time/effort to get them looking as good as other repaired bells, and I ALWAYS have to repair Rudy bells "by hand"...and no, I'm not going into my definition of what "by hand" means. Just understand it to mean "a lot more work".

I also have to just stop working on Rudy bells (not when I'm really satisfied with my work, as with most other bells, but) when I see that I've reached a point of "diminishing returns"...and that is not an uplifting moment (i.e. "it's no fun to fix them"). I sold my 5/4 to a friend a few years ago. They have had no idea (until now, because they will surely read this post) that I (having bought that tuba with a creased bell, as they knew) spent about FIVE HOURS BEYOND "diminishing returns" on that bell. I doubt that ANY of my customers want to spend 6-1/2 hours of blokebux on their creased bells. :|

...and some people seem to think I'm pretty good at fixing tuba bells...whatever...

JUST DON'T CREASE YOUR FRIGGIN' RUDY TUBA'S BELL !!!

Right! Crease someone else's Rudy tuba's bell, if you must!
Of course, for best results, a James R New C-1 mouthpiece is recommended!

I'm certainly not planning to crease my bell!

As an owner of one of these I have to wonder now if they are prone to it. The bells are so huge.
It happened to mine,
Miraphone 188 (gone)
Rudy Meinl 5/4 (gone)
HB 21 (yes)
Wessex Chicago York (yes)
Wessex Berg F (yes)
