2018-2019 TMEA (Texas) All-State Tuba Recordings

Postby Scott Roeder » Mon Aug 06, 2018 9:04 pm

I know there are a lot of Texas folks on TubeNet so I wanted to share recordings that I made of this years All-State Etudes. Since I picked them this year I figured I would make recordings as well.

Thanks for listening and I hope they prove to be a valuable resource.

You sounded great at TBA, Scott. You had a lot of good insight regarding the stylistic approach to the etudes also. Thanks, Scott !!

Great recordings. Not a fan of #11, but that's not your fault. It just isn't an etude I enjoy hearing, playing, or teaching

#11 is not my favorite either. To make it a bit more palatable, I used to imagine it was the background music for a chase or some kind of shenanigans on The Munsters or The Addams Family. Something like Uncle Fester gets drunk and tries to go downstairs or Hermann chasing Grandpa around the living room in fast motion. Yes, I'm that old and that weird.

Scott, these are excellent renditions. The contestants would be silly not to listen to your fine recordings. Great stuff!

Things like #11, I refer to as "tuba, for the sake of tuba." I'm not a fan, but you've got to do it!

PS -- I don't think I'd make it to the Texas all-state band!

I did, but (praise God) #11 was NOT on the list.

Props to Scott for nailing the heck out of it!

I did too; but it was so long ago I don't remember what I played or if they had even invented printed music yet.

Heh: my Texas all-state days predate this list by a ways, and I remember auditioning on this year's etudes about 40-odd years ago. I know band directors don't like to buy etude books, but really . . .

I think I played at least two of the etudes from this year's list when I was in high school from 84-86.(three year high school)

Hey Scott,

We listened to your videos, they were good, we liked them, and now (per usual) it's time to be silly.
