WTB: Holton E-flat Piston(s)

Postby WC8KCY » Wed Oct 10, 2018 12:56 pm

I am looking for the first piston, or a complete set of 3 pistons, for my vintage Holton E-flat:

Piston Length: 90.13 mm
Piston Diameter: 23.49 mm
Port Diameter: 16.55 mm

Thanks!

I have a complete valve section off a Holton Monster Eb from about 1914. It it three front facing pistons. The 1st piston is the roughest one, with 2nd and 3rd working very well with minimal plating loss. First would benefit from those wonderful Ferree's piston and casing sleeves and slugs, perhaps a very light lapping. The plating is good, but it runs roughly when dry. There is a small, shallow dent in one side of the piston. (An experienced tech can fix this for you. I could, too, but that would increase my price by my hourly rate for however long it took me, and I am not really interested in expending any effort on these.) The 1st slide loop is currently off the set. I have the parts and would reassemble the slide for you at no extra cost. The compression is only so-so — they *are* 104 years old…

I can provide far more photos and information if you need — just ask. PM me if interested and I will send you photos, my email address and phone number and we can talk about it.

I would sell you this complete valve set for $100 shipped via USPS. (Shipping would be included in the price.) I accept PayPal and your money would have to clear my bank before I would ship them.

Since this is a lot more than you are actually wanting to buy I will not be offended if you pass this one by, heh, heh…

Regards,

Wade

Here is a teaser photo.

Hi, Wade:

Gasp, I should have specified that my Holton is a top-action horn.

Perhaps a 4th valve conversion could be made up using the parts pictured? Hmm....

Here's a pic of the potential victim:
