Didn't Jonathan put a smaller bell on at the last minute? The one at tmea was tiny.

The bell is 13” as the originals used in British orchestras up until 1970’s. We did not increase the bell size, as that would have destroyed its unique tone - which I would describe as like a bass euphonium

Admittedly I skipped around the video a bit just to hear the playing bits. Dylan, was the mouthpiece you were using something that came with the horn or something you had on hand?

It comes with a Wessex Bel Canto mouthpiece.

Actually – having played four or five of the original Edgware Rd. instruments, these things of Jonathan‘s play slightly better in tune.

We did make slight change to the bore taper to improve intonation, similar to we did on the German Kaiser. When Wessex does clone an old horn, we do try to improve and not just copy. Often these intonation problems creep in through manufactures using existing parts to reduce development costs, and that will have been the case with the old Edgware Rd British F.

I will point out that the extra slide in the case shown on video is an alternative main tuning slide. Wessex are now including alternative main tuning slides with all horns now being manufactured with a shorter main slide. This allows for variations is pitch for different ensembles (A=439 to A=443 Hz) and the fact that some people play flatter and some sharper, I believe due to their oral cavities. So two alternative slides will avoid the situation where slide is falling out trying to get down to pitch, or pushed all the way in with no-where to go. I hope Wessex customers will appreciate having this choice of slides to use.
