For sale: Meinl Weston 5450 Thor

Post by thebradley63 »

Meinl Weston 5450 Thor, silver plated finish (with Accent branding)
5/4 CC with 5 valves (4 piston, 1 thumb activated rotary)
Comes with red flight case and a Cronkhite gig bag
Located near Dallas, TX
I’d really prefer not to ship, but I’m willing to entertain it.
Asking $10,000

This horn has a bit of history that may interest all of you, whether you are interested in purchasing or not: This horn was originally purchased by Nat McIntosh of Youngblood Brass fame but he discovered it was far too big to be cavorting around a stage; this horn is a beast. At the time, the band was sponsored by Accent, so this horn is stenciled with Accent branding. I believe this horn changed hands one or two times, but I purchased it from Jason Wallace, the principal at the Dallas Winds.

This horn has served me extremely well for a number of years, but now I am moving off to graduate school in a non-music related field and I would barely get to play this horn, if at all. And believe me, it deserves to be played.

Works for me, thanks!

Not personally interested, just trying to get that question out of the way... Because everyone seems to ask that. :tuba:

Crazy story. I saw the first Dallas brass concert Nat played with the Thor. It was 2006 or 2007 at all State Band in Pennsylvania. During the educator’s conference that occurred at Hershey PA the Dallas brass took the stage with Nat as the tuba player. He made a joke on stage that he just got that tuba and was transposing on the fly the tune he was about to perform. He sounded great like he always does and I was able to get his autograph afterwards. I remember the accent branding on the bell. Fun times and Nat is a great guy!
