R.I.P. Connie Weldon

Post by brendanige »

From the International Women's Brass Conference Facebook page. Sad news.

Our dear Pioneer has left our world. Connie Weldon, pioneering tubist and educator, played under Leonard Bernstein at Tanglewood before working as acting Principal Tuba of Concertgebouw Orchestra during a Fulbright Fellowship. She later performed with the Kansas City and Miami Philharmonics. She taught at University of Miami (1972 to 1991), and formed the University of Miami Tuba Ensemble in 1960. Awarded our Pioneer Award at IWBC 1997 in St. Louis. Connie, may you continue to shine for us as an example of standing tall and working with kindness, and may your ideals live on in your students, and in all of us
