SOLD: Eastman 836S - $9,500

Post by JPLynd »

Hi All,

There are a couple horns listed for sale on here that I'm interested in moving to so listing this great 836S.

Pretty standard example of the 836 that we all are familiar with by now. Surprisingly easy to drive, surprisingly good intonation, and unsurprisingly killer low range (seriously.. its as amazing as everyone says. I do not by any stretch of the imagination have the worlds best low range and even I sound good on this horn.)

I'm currently having a Cronkhite Cordura gig bag made for it (which cost $672) and will ask Cronkhite to update the shipping address so it gets shipped directly to the buyer whenever they get around to finishing it.

The horn has two pea sized dings (one on the bottom bow and one on the bell) but otherwise it is in pretty much like new condition.

Because I don't have a hard case, I am *incredibly* hesitant to ship, but will drive several hours to meet a buyer somewhere. Horn is located in NYC.

Pics or it didn't happen:

Also, since i've gotten this question of FB, I'll post response here as well...

"So why the sell on the Eastman? I’ve seen a lot of these horns for sell but it brings question to me, “why are they being resold if they’re so great?”

Sure! To give a little background, I acquired this horn this past summer as part of a trade. I traded for this horn because I knew it would be relatively easy to re-sell if it wound up not being for me and I was worried I was going to have a hard time selling the large rotary CC tuba that I was trying to sell at the time due to the stigma around rotary horns in the States. So, part of why I traded for it in the first place was for the liquidity. I felt it would be easier to sell this horn than the horn i was selling at the time.

I think the other thing its important to realize is that while it does seem like one of these has been listed every few weeks, (relatively frequently compared to other models) this phenomenon happens every few years when the new hot horn comes out. And for every one that is listed for sale, theres probably 10s more that people are hanging on to. There's just a lot of them moving around right now which creates the illusion that people are offloading them. I don't think thats what is happening. Someone will be getting a very great horn.
