Anyone hear their perfermance of Mahler 1 tonight? brass section was spectacular.

Who was THAT tubist playing ?

Why were there 7 french horns ?

Why were there only 3 tombonists?

I only got to see and hear about 30 minutes of it so that's all the questions I have .

It was awesome by the way .

1) Alan Baer

2)That's how many horns the MAHLER 1 calls for

3)There were 4 bones (Joe Alessi used an assistant for quick mute changes)

According to original instrumentation, there's a 3rd tenor part. Also, 5 trumpets are scored, but the 5th is rarely used.

I'm sure I'm wrong a couple of times....tell it to your congressman....

I know his CC horn is the Miraphone 1291 and if Im not mistaken he is using the Miraphone 128?(Firebird) if not the 128? than its the Gronitz (dont remember the model #)

He was playing the Gronitz PCK as his big horn last night. I don't know what the Firebird looks like, so I can't say about the F. Interesting that he played the F on the first long low F entrance...

From a very long time ago, I seem to recall someone telling me that Roger Bobo did the same thing (using an F for the first entrance).
