Such is life on public forum. TubeNet, like any other BBS, has its share malcontents, zealots, and a very elite group of people who feel it is their responsibility to put the preceding groups in their "place".
I'm not saying UncleBeer is part of any of these groups, but you open yourself up to these goobers the moment you make your first post.
This thread should be case in point.

I think we're all entitled to stick our foot in our mouths from time to time... I also believe that people "in general" should show more restraint in what they say. How about this saying: When you open your mouth (or post a message), you show your true intelligence. That saying can go both ways so, the bottom line? Watch what you say...

I couldn't agree more! You're just going to piss-off the entire board! It's best to just ignore unclebeer (or anyone else irritating!) and stick to the tuba questions...

I don't really care, I've seen worse... it's an online forum... deal with it, like the real world, there are people who are impolite.

He's entitled to his opinion. I've said worse things:
Frackenpohl Sonata for euphonium

calliope music... might make good gag music for a dbeuph but seriously, I was waiting for cotton candy, corndog, and souvenir vendors to show up when I was playing it.
The Composer's probably still alive too.

Its called Freedom of Speech.

Unless you want to live in a country where you are regularly tortured until you say what they want, dress how they want, act how they want, live where they want, believe in their exact specific interpretition of "religion" without the slightest deviation, and never ever complain or question authority in even the slightest way.

And I'm here because, no matter how misguided and poorly informed I think Doc is, he MIGHT ACCIDENTALLY utter something I hadn't previously considered. Image

I don't EVER think I am imparting something to breathless listeners, I am just giving my opinion, just like I would down at the local saloon. And, as Doc points out, we probably wouldn't even agree on beer (although it BETTER be dark and malty, or YOU'RE wrong... )

I HOPE I'm well informed, but I'm here to learn, not impart. Sometimes learning is to reconsider something I've played or something I think I know. The discussions here have prompted me to dig further. And I also learned that I won't learn ANYTHING by not getting to know the people involved. It's the Internet, for crissakes. I, for example, have it on good authority that Doc is actually a 70-year-old Bulgarian woman who posts in her underwear, and has never even been in the US, much less than Texas. Good thing I never take her seriously...

Same happens other places. . .

Before I say my piece on this topic, there will be some actual
TUBA related content, I just bought a Conn Satin Silver 24J, It's
really delivers what the hype says, its a BIG horn with a DEEP voice,
so unlike my 4/4 german style 4rv horn.
Also I just got my G&W Bayamo mouthpiece in the mail, can't wait to try it!

Well Concerned. . .
I will not defend someone who does not act with tact,
but I will say there are all sorts out there, some may be respectful,
others might be big on getting all riled up at what was said.
It's the Tubenet, we get all types here!

Things sometimes do get un-civil on the
Tubenet, I have found it's better to have only
a little supervision from the Administrator,
any more control exercised here by Sean would mean
he would have to spend a lot more time policing the BBS.

I always know that a post I put up might just touch someone off,
it's the dynamics of human behavior,
99 people won't blink, but that hundredth person, well, you know. . . .

Doc
Of course you should! But make sure it's anonymous! You wouldn't want anyone to think you have a spine!!!

C'mon...

If we were to censor posters like ol' Unk, I doubt I'd ever logon here. I mean... I've already read all threads I'll ever need regarding which of AJ's Yorks had the extra water key and whether or not I need an F or E-flat (or EEb? or Eb? or EE-flat! Oh my God! How will I sleep at night?!?!) to play the V Williams, or if I should chryogenically freeze my horn (whose valves I was thinking of venting and lapping ... do I need that? Why would I pay a guy to lick my valves?). I'm sure there is still more to be said on CC/BBb and 5-valve vs. 4v auto comp.

All in all, if it weren't for some of those "a__hole" posters I would only drop in to check out the occasional tuba dorn (cool pics of cool horns).

Why don't we let Sean, who owns and moderates this list, deal with people he finds objectionable?

The rest of us might make a polite request to all to tone it down. Here is an example of a polite request:

viewtopic.php?t=10413

If you have a beef with an individual, then take it to the individual. If you haven't the courage to do that, then take it to the moderator. His user name is "Woodsheddin'". You can find him behind an Arban's.

Seriously, sir or madam, you've got to be kidding.

1. I checked several of the linked posts and saw very little that I consider truly rude. A few blunt statements, but saying something bluntly and to the point reduces the risk of carpal tunnel syndrome.

2. Not everyone has it within their nature to be diplomatic with everything they say. Neither is it a crime if someone else's level of sensitivity to "rudeness" is different from yours. Maturity allows us to overlook comments that are blunt, but with no obvious intent to malign, taunt, ridicule, insult, etc. BTW, those of us who are more diplomatic are also those with a higher risk of carpal tunnel syndrome.

3. Allow me to defferentially state that this is a truly disappointing post and thread:
a. why didn't you send Carl a PM? (as has already been stated)
b. why didn't you send Sean a complaint? (as has already been stated)
c. when did Sean give you a P.C. Deputy badge? (oops -- was that rude? Sorry -- I call it "blunt" ....) Allow me to be more polite: "In my opinion, you had absolutely no business posting a poll, and didn't even have the decency to reveal your identity. How sad." (as has already been stated)
d. I consider your initial post to be far more out of line than any of the posts I saw from The Man From Uncle.
e. Please don't do this again -- my carpal tunnel is acting up.

If you sing the above to one of Disney's favorite old TV show tunes -- it turns out to be --
and you can all join in the chorus now:

M - I - C - K - E - Y - M - O - U - S - E

What I want to know is will "Official Tubenet Asshole Club" be stamped on the front of the Mickey Mouse Ears and be available as Official Tubenet Gear? ;-)

Just think we could wear this at tuba gatherings like ITEA in order to identify other tubenetters that we don't know by sight. I can see it now -- tuba players wearing nothing but their Tubenet Thongs and their Official Tubenet Asshole Club Ears.

Run for your lives -- Oh the humanity!

Wow. Hard not to be impressed by someone who creates a throwaway account merely to commit character assassination anonymously, and in the name of "decency". Classy.

Folks have already said what I woulda said. Thanks.
