Re: Go Phillies!!!!
Scuttlebutt on the morning sports talk shows was that the "rules" had been suspended for the World Series, so that there would be no short games AND that Vegas was paying off side bets on that game only with Philly as the winner (calling the game complete after 5 innings.)

Well the trophy goes back where it belongs to the National League with me rooting against them. I'm sure there will be a pennance to pay at come point for my trip to the dark side. Just can't hang with the Phillie or the Mets. But the Phillies were the best team, no doubt. The boys in blue ought to be ashamed of themselves though. Disgracefully poor umpiring for both sides.

I would agree, that that was some of the worst umpiring I've seen. Missed tags, funky called strike calls and the like. Usually, there are just one or two of them, but it seemed like there were more than average.

I concur as well, but it was awfully cool having the game be overwith before 10:00. Maybe all the games should be only three innings.bearphonium wrote:tbn.al wrote:Well the trophy goes back where it belongs to the National League with me rooting against them. Personally, I think it was that little replica Billy Penn statue installed on top of the Comcast building that broke "our curse"...

Actually when you consider they have been in the workd series 4 times in the last 28 years that is not bad.
ken "But when they have not been in the world series they really sucked...." k
I used to follow the Phils when I was a kid and I remember the 80 season very well, but I did not even really follow them much through the 90's. Life got too hectic and they were so bad. Many years they lost more games than they won this year! Then when my son played little league ball we would go to some Reading Phillies games (hometown AA ball, lots of fun to watch) and I saw a lot of these guys play in the early 2000's guys like Ryan Howard, Shane Victorino, Pat Burrell, Brett Myers, etc. Then we started to go to some Phila. Philles games and got to see them play in the Bigs and now it is even cooler yet to see tem as champs.

I have a tubist friend who lives way more downtown. I asked him if he was celebrating. He said, "My wife asked me that. I said that I went into the garage and overturned her car. Is that enough celebrating for ya!?"

In college, I knew a guy from Idaho. I went over to have dinner with him and his girlfriend once, and they made baked ziti....with cottage cheese instead of ricotta. It was--and I say this with no reservations--the most horrid tasting thing I have ever eaten in my life.the elephant wrote:That only happens in SoCal…TMurphy wrote:Strangely enough, not what you find in a Philly Cheesesteak...the elephant wrote:

Re: Go Phillies!!!!
Remember when umpires were assigned to work the world Series based on merit and merit alone? Those umpires who graded out over the season as the top 6 worked, the rest went home? But---that was "unfair" to the other hard-working umps! Kinda raises topics that might smack on the political side, though; and we can't have that.bearphonium wrote:tbn.al wrote:Well the trophy goes back where it belongs to the National League with me rooting against them. Anyway, if you haven't followed this team recently, they are the epitome of the word "team", and are a lot of fun to watch. Go Phils!

Bearin' up!
