i know man, i feel ya there. just for that stupid missed call, the astros should have, and probably would have, won that game. i can't believe he thought that ball hit him. just looking at the angle at which the ball hit and and the speed of it, he didn't even need to use his ears. bull crap call...

The Sox outplayed the Astros, hands down. Yes there was a blown call, but that didn't cost the game. There was a blown call on Petitte's balk move to first to pick off Iguchi, Petitte gets away with that crap all of the time. Just saying there was more than one blown call that decided the game.

Watch Petitte's pickoff move more closely. 'Tis no balk, just a very, very effective move. Always has been.

This time it will be 100 years before the Red Sox win it again. Last year was a fluke.

Blown calls

Post by sc_curtis »

Apples: Obvious blown call about the ball hitting the bat, not the batter...

Oranges: Iffy call about Pettite's pick-off move

You can't compare the two. In close games like the first two have been, a single call CAN affect the outcome of a game.

The White Sox played HANDS DOWN better than the Astros? Thats not what the scoreboard indicates.

Umpires are human. Mistakes happen--it's part of the game. Yes, the White Sox got an extra runner. But, Qualls still left a meatball over the plate for Konerko, resulting in the grand slam. The umpire made a mistake, the White Sox capitalized on it. That's baseball.

Anyone remember the Jeffrey Meir incident in 1996???

I, for one, am shocked with how....undominating...pitching has been for both teams.

Congratulations

Though I'm not happy about my beloved Astros losing (being swept no less) I do have to congratulate the White Sox. Both teams played hard, and every game was close, but the sox just came out winners each time.

I'm at least happy that the 'stros finally made it to the world series in my lifetime; maybe they can win one before I die!!!

As Sox fan, I couldn't agree more. Games three and four, in particular showed the grittiness, determination and class of both teams. With teams like the Astros and Cards in the other Chicago team's division, I suspect it will be quite a while before we see a cross-town World Series.

I guess with my prognosticating abilities ("Sox in six") I shouldn't quit my day job.

Thanks, again, Houston for a great series.

Hands Down? YES HANDS DOWN !!!!!!
Any team that SWEEPS another team in a playoff series, has played better ball-PERIOD! It's not even a question, Houston trotted out their best, and it wasn't enough. Heck, even the Cubs can beat the Stros half the time.

And the TV ratings show it to be one of the least watched series ever. The anonymity that lead the Sox to a championship (read: lack of ego) does not translate at the box office. Even the established starts of Biggio, Bagwell, Clemens, and Petitte weren't enough to get the ratings up. Every game was a close one, but the casual fan wasn't interested.

Or maybe the problem is the half of the nation that are Cubs fans couldn't stand to watch.

Did anyone else notice a lack of "victory riot" stories?
did we finally overcome that little tradition. God I hope so.

It was cold. It was raining. It was almost 11 PM.

I think all of the above contributed to keeping the troublemakers at home.

The city and the police department also deserve credit. The cops were out in force and were positioned so that they could quickly defuse anything that got started. They also used some common sense, however. All the word was going out that folks should not go to Comiskey Park after the game but a whole bunch showed up anyway. The cops adjusted to the situation, lets the folks blow off some steam, and the crowd thinned after a while.

Finally, the fans deserve some credit. After all, when you are the WORLD CHAMPIONS, you should act like it.

And it's Chicago, not Detroit.
