If the scratch is really bad and noticeable, try thinning some clear nail polish and carefully brushing it over the scratch, doing your best to blend it in. It won't be perfect, but it's better than nothing.

FWIW, there's not a lot of difference between nail polish and nitrocellulose lacquer.
