If I were ever to go to a "big audition," I would be very disturbed if anyone were to "whip out" something. I would especially be disturbed if it were blue.the elephant wrote:Wow . . . drooooool . . . the guys at the "big audition" will know that I'm one serious dude when I whip that blue one out and start cranking some Wagner on it as loudly as I can . . .

Opaque paint should be cheaper to apply than lacquer, because you don't have to buff to a mirror finish first.
But it will be thicker and heavier than lacquer because of the pigment.
Most colored lacquer is not opaque at all, but just has a little pigment in it and still let the polished brass shine through.

Rug's-N-Relics used to have a blue Besson Eb comp redone in blue. He sold it to a Japanese enthusiast for $$$$. I was able to run off a copy of the picture before he apparently deleted it from his website.
Hey - bring it back! It looked sooooooo cool with the blue lacquer and gold lacquer trim: slides, finger buttons, bow guard, etc.!!!!

You think those outfits are bad, this saloon owner made us wear Confederate Cavalry uniforms and play straight corn country music. I was the band leader so I got to be a colonel.
This was in the 70's so the second night we wore the uniforms, The bass player cut his sleeves off up to his shoulders and shredded the gray pants with the yellow stripe from hips to ankles. I sewed a huge yellow Superman "S" on the chest of mine and a Tweety Bird emblem on the right arm up high. We started playing mostly rock with the occasional country ballad. He made so much money he didn't fire us. We made so much money he made us pay for the darn uniforms.
