I don't think you grasped the sarcasm of my post fully...
i wasn't being specific.... i just think when we have threads like this we usually put ourselves in the situation where whatever band you are in is the one you tout...
I think for one, we should look elsewhere for excellence occaisionally. The thread would have been very interesting if the title had been, "besides your college marching band, what is the best you have seen"

Marching is for the slippery-challenged
The clear winner here is the Brown University Skating Band.

Well... at least I listed up some kind of proof to back up my posting. Plus it offered a little entertainment for your busy day!djwesp wrote:Shouldn't this thread be titled....
COME BRAG ABOUT YOUR MARCHING BAND
Because it is basically beocming a "toot your own horn" type thing.

Thanks for the MP3 files! They are cool. I am going to be doing the tuba Picollo Solo with the Long Beach Community Band. Looking forward to it! It was good to hear an actual recording of it!Bandmaster wrote:Well... at least I listed up some kind of proof to back up my posting. (For all you outsiders... Chuck is the Director of the Long Beach Community Band, or at least he was the last time I checked their website.)

And the director Scott Pierson is sorta known around the drum corps community.

From my perspective it's usually a giant WGrooving for Heaven wrote: It's great for recruting, and the kids love seeing something have never seen before, a show with style, grace, musicallity, and a overall theme that doesn't make you want to go out and form a giant M on the field.
New Breed, Old Breed! It doesn't matter so long as it's the Marine Breed!

When I was in grad school at Mizzou I played a year in Marching Mizzou, not only because they were good and I wanted to be a part of it, but also because the mystique at a lot of the high schools in SW Missouri was if you were a good player after you graduated, you got to play in a college band, but if you were REALLY good, you got to play with Marching Mizzou.
I was there just before the NCAA said we couldn't sit in temp bleachers erected just for us between the end line and the track. I don't even remember who was playing Mizzou, but the opposing team was setting up for @ 25 yard field goal. I set my horn down, ran behind the bleachers, made an educated guess as to the angle from the hash mark, and here it came...I caught the field goal! Being near the end of the season, I considered that a fitting conclusion to my college marching career of all of one season.
Fight, Tigers fight for ole' Mizzou...
