Yeah, I've heard they're the first things to go. The slider beams I'm not too worried about -- the nearest White Castle is more than 50 miles away, but they're available frozen locally, so no problem there. I am worried about the shoes -- is there anybody around who can plate teflon back up to size?windshieldbug wrote:Just make sure that the teflon shoes and slider beams workKevin Hendrick wrote:Oh, man -- I got ta get me one o' them!

Say it ain't so! I have at least three or four pieces of music written by that Gabrieli fellow that clearly say "Tuba" in the upper left corner. And near as I know, he was even before the Baroque!LoyalTubist wrote:Tubas weren't around yet. You won't find tubas in Baroque music. Tubas have had valves all through their history, since the 1835 patent in Berlin, Germany, which is where we mark the beginning of the tuba.
[removing tongue from cheek for a moment]
I would say that the invention of the valve is what made instruments like the tuba possible. When the first reliable valves came along, guys like Wieprecht said, "Great! Now we can get rid of that POS serpent with an instrument that I can sell dozens of to the Prussian Guard bands. I LOVE this country!"
Yes, that is an exact quote.

That wasn't an EXACT quote... I think it went more like this:Rick Denney wrote:I would say that the invention of the valve is what made instruments like the tuba possible. "Great! Now we can get rid of that POS serpent with an instrument that I can sell dozens of to the Prussian Guard bands. They'll be using six valves instead of 11 keys, but each of those valves will have to be aligned both open and closed, and then the valve tubing will have to be adjusted, along with the valve action set for each user... GOD I LOVE this country!"
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Don't be too sure. Moritz was the craftsman, but Wieprecht was the salesman. The sales guys always get paid the best.iiipopes wrote:Actually, Wieprecht was so enamoured with his valves he just stopped with, "What a great country!" when he got his patent, and it was Moritz that said, "I can sell....."
