I've been trying find decent brass repair person within driving distance of Shreveport, LA and the search is not going well. There doesn't seem to be many of those folks around this area who are any good with tubas.
No one who tells you what you want to hear at someone else's detriment is acting in your best interest.

Yup. Only 3 hours from here.
