Oscars and Best Original Song

Post by dunelandmusic »

The Oscars are tonight, now vying for the most hyped annual event next to the Super Bowl. Tonight there are only 3 songs nominated for best original song-does this bother anyone else? It's hard enough for musicians these days, but to lose some spots at the Oscars for original songs doesn't make any sense- just so it will be easier to select "It's Hard Out Here For a Pimp" as best song?

Or is it possible that nobody wrote any new songs this year.

Bonus question: what is your favorite ever from either "Best Original Song" or "Best Original Score" ?

"Blame Canada" from South Park Bigger, Longer, Uncut was a great nominee.

Yeah, a great, funny song, integral to the plot of the movie, as opposed to the usual Disney/Elton John/Phil Collins dreck that is grafted on purely for soundtrack sales.

Of course it had to lose!
