The average of my practice time is about 1 hour a day. Some days I practice more, some less. And that doesn't include warmup or band practices.

Very encouraging!

lol I second that..........I finally realised i want to get into music and advance on the euphonium. Band class just wasnt doing it this year. So i started practising like a few hours a day at home and WOW my tone quality is like........literally music to my ears now.......and flexibility as you said. I find the 'hard' pieces much easier and i have about an extra half octave of range now.

I find it most helpful to have four (4) 45 minute practice sessions. I find that most people could physically sit there and practice for longer - but mental fatigue is what gets me. I think that you have to be in the correct mindset to get anything accomplished (learning, that is), and if you aren't enjoying yourself you are just getting frustrated.

So, in answer to your question: I practice 3 hrs/day, but spread evenly over the day. Here is my routine for the sessions:

Session 1: Warm-up
Session 2: Fun with Fundamentals
Session 3: Solo rep/Band exc.
Session 4: Take one area (or 2) of my playing that needs improvement and work on it. EVERYDAY.

Hope this helps.

I don't get to practice too much since I'm in 5 ensembles. I generally practice 1-2 hours a day and perform in ensembles around 3-5 hours a day. This make learning the Three Furies difficult (but I am on Fury II now).
