Recently, I expressed interest in some very recent (2005) compositions for concert band and was offered not one, but two recordings (for about $20 the each) of the work.
"Great!" says I, "Let's see if anyone else recorded the work." So I go to the Harry Fox Agency website, http://www.harryfox.com , search for the piece (it's listed), and find that neither group that recorded it is listed on the license database!
Now I'm wondering--is this business of "mechanical rights" and "concert band" something that's dismissed with a wink? Or are the band directors and management in question really such slimy people that they don't give a damn about intellectual property rights?
Help, please!
