Adding my lack-of-impressedness also.

I think maybe I came up thinking that they were somehow magical, and when I got spend a day with a few of them, it was a big letdown. I got much better results (personally) out of Peratucci and Meinl-Weston horns that day.

Not that I would kick one out of bed for eating crackers. They are good horns. I just expected more.

My reaction was the opposite:

My teacher in undergrad had 2 of them, HB-2 and HB-2P.

I was surprised to find they played very differently, and I didn't like either at the time.

I graduated, played on his when I subbed for him, and fell in love.

So now I own my own, and couldn't be happier with it (unless I had more horns, I guess then I could be happier....)

Ya know, I heard an interesting story about a hirsbrunner one time, who was it? I dunno, but this pro player bought the hirsbrunner Grand orchestral model and didn't quite understand how to play it, and sold it. However, years later he went back with a different approach to playing it, and it got just the sound he wanted. The moral here-you can't play every horn the same way.

PS: STAY AWAY FROM WWBW! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!!! I tried buying a meinl weston 2165 from them used for 7k, and they said they didn't have one after they already took our money, and offered us a new one for 3k more. After dealing with them, they agreed to give us a new one for the original 7k price, but found out online that they were trying to send us a miraphone 1291 instead of the meinl weston 2165 and stopped them.

Give me a call when you have a chance. This is the 1st I've heard of this situation. I would like to find out what happened. We did have a used 2165 but it was sold a while back. I'd like to know who you were working with here.

Yeah a conference is a bad place to try and make a judgement based on that one time. But yeah i tried a HB at the conference, and i was impressed, but yeah i haven't been able to play it again since then. So yeah, who knows how i will react the second time around.
