Buffing

Hey, will buffing or polishing an instrument remove tiny marks created by a watch............they are extremely small but show

if you want a depth......id say like 1/64 of an inch lol.

Don't lol too much--1/64 of an inch is about 0.016", where the plating on your horn is probably about 10 microns, or 0.0004".

Laughing aside--you can use a silver polish like Hagerty's to soften the edges of the scratch and lessen its appearance. Don't overdo it--a single application and some gentle bufing with a soft cotton cloth should do the job.

possibly... by making less noticeable wear (if not done right)
If on a laquered horn, it might require a spot lacquer (for the quicker fix)

on silver... don't buff.

It's probably not worth getting rid of.

One light scratch = scratch
Many light scratches = satin patina, to be preserved at all costs. Go figure!

anyway, oh well. Didnt realize that these silver plated horns are a lot softer than the plain lacquer ones ive played anyway

You just need a solid gold watch. Then the silver plating can scratch your watch.

Otherwise, i assure you that the stainless steel of most watch bands and buckles will scratch both silver plating and lacquer quite with equal effectiveness. (Even the epoxy lacquer used by Yamaha is softer than silver.)

K to be honest, the reason Im worried is a serious one lol. I was hoping to get away with a minor crime against Yamaha, I borrowed 642s to try for a few days, they asked no buffing, scratches, or dent marks........dont even clean up water marks. Everything was fine till my last rehearsel with it i forgot my watch on...leaving miniscule (sp?) marks on the 3rd slide. SO i figured, damn that ones gunna get to my wallet. Sent it back, havent got a phone call yet lmao. O welll acccidents happen, more careful next time.

Rather than being cavalier about it, the mature thing would be to own up to the deed. You're not hurting Yamaha, but rather the dealer who loaned it out to you.

Oh ok, well Im still just gunna beat around the bush, and im sure theyll notice it anyway, then Ill just pay up........I mean its not like theyre not going to believe that I didn't think I damaged it at all........because i could have taken it not hitting anything as being perfect condition. NOt like im going to deny it...
