Tuba solo with band accomp.

Post by Blastissimo con Forte »

Hey everyone. I've been looking around for a good, advanced, tuba solo with band accomp. I'm talking about gregson concerto difficulty at the least. Something that's under 10 minutes long...wether it be the whole thing, or just one good long movement. Just seeing what's on the lists isn't enough. I need some actual oppinions on what good ones are. Thanks.

Barry McKimm wrote a nice piece that is available for tuba and band. See Dave Zerkel's article, it has a number of good tuba and band pieces listed.

When you say 'band' is that brass or wind?

I played a great tuba concerto by William Brusick last year...it is quite long (about 27 minutes), but you could just do one of the movements. I don't know if it is published yet...if you PM me I could send you Mr. Brusick's email. I believe Tim Northcut (Cincinnati Conservatory teacher, etc.) has released a recording of it with many other works for band and tuba...might be worth looking for.

Which euphonium/trombone solo did you do with band?

I used to play with a town band in which every first chair tuba player who ever played in it had to play A Touch of Tuba by Art Detrick. I played that thing close to 75 times!
