Hey UF Pedal Tones

Was your trip to Minneapolis as exciting as you wanted it to be? What did you play while up there? How about next weekend in Indy? Heading there too?

Why waste board space for this? Send a PM.

I have the feeling I'm listening in on a partyline. Am I the only one who remembers those?

With a partyline, several phone numbers were hooked together on one line. You had to take turns to get calls out. And you could legally listen to private conversations.

OK. I take it all back. Yes, I am even wasting board space with this. Perhaps I should have said something like, "Would you rather discuss this somewhere more private?"

My apologies....

I remember my grandparent's party line. When the phone rang, you listened for your particular set of rings - a combination of long and short rings, to know if the call was yours or not. You got to where you listened very carefully for clicks and changes in background noise from the impedance changes when someone else picked up, and if a neighbor's long lost relative happened to call at the wrong time, you were out of luck.

Ironically, people who tote their cell phones in public and talk out loud going down the aisles or waiting for the bus seem to forget there is no "force field" around them isolating their calls, and sometimes you hear more than you really wanted to know, just like when you used to pick up, and if you didn't hear a dial tone, you either quietly put the phone back down, or, as politely as possible, "Excuse me, how long...I need to call...." Oh, yeah, once I even had to wait a few seconds to flush a urinal, because the guy in the next stall was actually in the middle of a business conversation while in the middle of "business!"

Ahh, there is nothing new in the world but the history you don't know!

The only thing cooler than having to change your life to fit other people yapping on their cell phones, is the ability to determine their cell phone usage yourself. There are a number of companies that make handheld cell phone reception killers. They look like cell phones so no one will know, and they work REALLY well. They aren't legal in California but that doesnt mean i dont want one. Im just not sure if I want to spend 300 bucks on something that is entirely a novelty.
