I am writing a paper on how parenthood affects your role as a music professor in higher education. I read an article from a female professor where she states that she was denied tenure on the basis of her decision to become a mother. This got my attention and led to this paper.
To aid my research with the paper, I'm looking for first-hand accounts from males and females who are working in Higher Education and are also parents.
If you would be willing to answer a few questions, please e-mail off the list at hnoyes@yahoo.com
Thank you for your help.

I had an education professor in grad school who was one of the foremost experts about children. She had no children of her own and those of us who had children often questioned her opinions. One thing, during weekly lab sessions with local children getting free lessons at our expense (which I honestly think is a good idea), she would often oversee what we were doing. She couldn't understand why the kids were so fidgetty in lab on a rainy day. I did. They were cooped up in a classroom all day, never had a chance to let out their apprehensions, and it all seemed like punishment. I noted this in my weekly lab reports. She never gave me less than an A, even though, I know she disagreed with everything I did. She left, due to marriage, and the professor who took her place was a breath of fresh air--he had kids!

My intent for posting on this forum was that there are probably more students/professors who read these posts than I could realistically find by email. The paper is meant to survey a wide variety of settings and present the findings. I'm hoping to continue to find what I've found, but the more input I receive, the better the paper will be.
On a side note, this is the only assignment in this class - graded by the Director of the school, and the course is a requirement for doctoral students - and only offered every other year. No pressure...So I had to try all avenues.
Thanks for the help.
