You can get some polka type music in various arrangements for free from my download groups. Donâ€™t overlook the Helicon Schottische offered in 4 versions.

Furthermore there are the 4 LÃ¦sÃ¸ Dances (very difficult) and Sat-Maras Polska. Both in very flexible arrangements.

Hanson House Music Publishing in Miami still has Harry Alfords "Hungry Five in Germany". Sixteen or so tunes for $12.95 for a set of booklets for two clarinets, one trumpet, one trombone, and one tuba (of course!) There is also the "Whoopie John" polka books. I think "Heinie's Happy Five" is also still available. I have lots of polkas and German folk music scored for a five-piece group. If you can't locate what you are looking for, drop me an email.

Yeah, "Whoopee John", "Polka Time", etc. are useful. If you have a slightly larger ensemble, try the "International" polka book.

Play through them once or twice to get the changes and occasional solo, then throw away the tuba book and improvise to keep things interesting. Otherwise, the boredom will get to you worse than bluegrass...

Ever notice how bluegrass bass players have a glazed far-away look on their faces?

This is authentic stuff. The gentleman who heads this up, Herb Bilhartz, is extremely knowledgable. Check it out.
