I have a great live recording of Pat Sheridan playing with the Long Island Youth Wind Ensemble (or some variant of that name- I forget exactly now). Although not perfect in some runs (live) this recording is what I look to for style. It was shared with me by the tuba player in that band. I forget his name now, but I think he used to be on TubeNet. Maybe he will pop up again now, or you can email me or PM.

That'd be me...It was the Nassau Suffolk Wind Symphony...the concert was recorded live at the Tilles Center at CW Post in February of 2003. Pat was actually really sick during the concert so it isn't his usual standard of perfection but is still absolutely amazing. PM me if you need it.

Wow. Sorry, I wasn't even close on the name of your group! Great playing, though.

I was wondering if anyone has a live recording, from like a recital or something of that sort, of the Gregson Cocnerto for Tuba.

Thanks in advance
Hans Nickel recorded it on Cantuballada, which is available from World of Brass. It's not a live recording, but absent audience clapping and coughing, I don't know what the difference would be.

I also have a recording (provided to me by Steve Harsch) of the Austin Symphonic Band accompanying Pat Sheridan. Sheridan's playing is excellent, and the ASB lives up to its claim of being among the best all-comers community bands in the country. But the mix is not that good on this tune.

I should also mention Michael Lind's recording of the Gregson on his CD "Play Tuba." Not as exciting as the Sheridan recording, but very well played. I LOVE his sound!

New recording by James Gourlay is well worth a mention. the sympathetic rescoring for orchestra is effective and Gourlay playes brilliantly.

And only £5.00 !! If you follow the link on the page you also get a signed acnowledgement from Gourlay himself - bargain !!

Composers shouldn't think too much -- it interferes with their plagiarism.
