I believe in standing up to perform a solo if you're a euphonium player, but what about when you're performing band excerpts? I can see both sides - standing looks nicer, but in an actual band, we would sit.
Do any euphonium players in service bands or people who've sat on audition panels have any thoughts on this?

Well IMO standing is more suitable either way....
On the other hand, if sitting were more suitable I would because its more comfortable heh, i tend to be physically lazy.

Having sat on several military audition committees, I couldn't care less if a eupher is sitting or standing while playing band excerpts.
I'd imagine that's the last thing on the committee's mind unless it's made up entirely of euph players (unlikely), and then they'd probably disagree amongst themselves what is best.

Re:
I don't think you would ever be asked to stand instead of sitting while performing excerpts. I would sit, although I'd be reluctant to play a solo and then sit down before playing excerpts at an audition.

I would think whatever sounds best- if it makes any difference at all.
If it sounds the same, then perhaps standing will impress the committee (subconsiously) that you're physically willing to stand and meet whatever the military throws at you.
But having never been on a military band committee, I'm only guessing...

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?
