Thanks for the info! So, what would be the effective range of this instrument; lowest note? Does the compensating system allow it to play lower than a non-compensated Eb tuba?

Actually it seems to be non-compensated. If it would be compensated there would me extra tubing in the back of first and third valve. In addition I don't see any fourth valve at all. So lowest you could get is A bellow staff + pedal tones. I wouldn't buy this tuba unless I would need it in a marching band and there would be bigger tubas to handle the low register.

It's a compensator. Note how one leg of the 3rd valve slide loops back to the 1st valve. Also note the little loop coming out of the bell side of the 1st valve--that's the compensation loop for that valve.

Your low A will be somewhat sharp, but most other notes should be very much "on".

And... if you look hard, you can see that it has two sets of valve slides.
