Portable CD recorders?

Post by Alex F »

I've been looking into buying a portable CD recorder/player. Two models of interest are the Roland CD-2 (record to CD and CF card) and the Superscoope PSD300 or 340.

What I like about the specs:

one piece w built-in speakers and mic; music practice options (tempo and repeat settings); almost like a cassette deck (turn on, push button, record or play).

I'm aware that there's more hi tech stuff out there but it's not where I'm at rith now. These things are a bit pricey (around $700) but I'm OK with that. My recording knowledge base stops at cassettes so don't go all "geeky tekie" on me.

I've searched the 'recording" threads on here but there is no mention of either of thes

Does anyone use or own one of these? Let me know what you think.

Thanks
Mark

Although, it might be a bit more geeky, you can get a digital recorder (hard drive) with a built in CD burner for less money than some of the portable CD recorders. These will also have multiple inputs and mixers built in.

I don't believe you can get the digital recorders with a built-in speaker or microphone though. There is always a trade-off.

I've never heard of a portable recorder before with music practice options; if you like the options, have the $$, and think you'll use it, go for it.

For just record-playback-listen-to-my-mistakes, I found I like the cheaper minidisks with a good mike.

A good mike, BTW, will make all the difference between hearing garbage on playback and not....and a good mike can be $$$ too.
