Not to flame on politics but I have never understood why actors push their political views. I guess they think "the cause" is more important than their own career...
I've got two young kids and I just don't have time to see movies anymore... Too many diapers to change and little attitudes to adjust!
bloke wrote:Further, how many of us do NOT go see movies anymore because we are simply assaulted with "too much information" about the scum-trash-perv-kook-psycho actors/actresses who portray characters in these movies?
If you are asking if I'll see MI3, the answer is absolutely NOT!
I have a growing list of idiots who have opened their mouth enough that I just can't watch them anymore. The list started with Shirley MacLaine; but Tom Cruise is at the honored top spot at the moment. Others include Alec Baldwin, Susan Sarandon, her husband Tim what's-his-name and anyone else who has threatened to move to France if they did get their way. BTW, did I mention the Dixie Chicks?

I doubt it's that egalitarian. For their own careers even distasteful publicity is better than no publicity...
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Well... The truth is that I have absolutely no idea who Trey Parker is.
This is the key; while I do know who Tom Cruise is (sort of impossible to not know that, even in the circles I run in) it is possible to enjoy some movies if you are completely blank on who the actors are. I recognize faces, of course, but don't have names (or histories) to go with them.

More to the point... Who cares?
I believe you have hit the nail squarely on the head. Who cares? However, I grow very weary of hearing many of these characters' political points of view. I often wonder why anyone listens to them. In my opinion, most are totally clueless.
As the father of two, and a bit of a crumudgeon (so my wife tells me) most of what I see in the theater is rated G and recently has been animated more than done by live actors. That said, we haven't been in a theater yet this year. In fact we don't see most of the kid intrest movies until they are out on video.
Now, I fully intend to see United 93 by the end of next week. Would go this week, but as mothers' day so coming, and my wife isn't sure she'd want to see it on a big screen - gotta wait.
New Breed, Old Breed! It doesn't matter so long as it's the Marine Breed!
My mom refused to watch a movie if the lead actors lived sinful lives. It was a wonder we ever got to see a movie.
I don't want to hear about any actor's love life ("Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime"). I don't need the inside scoop on any actor's politics-before, during or after a show.
I resent the market being overburdened with "R" rated movies because they are considered artsy when most of us yokels here in flyover country are looking for some good writing and raw escapism.
I can't agree more about those political actors. Every time a John Wayne flick comes on TMC I nearly scream at that draft dodging coward who often commented on draft dodging cowards. I mean, to tell young people to go to war while he stayed home in the safe confines of movie studio's? Hard to watch a guy like that knowing his politics. Luckily for me I don't have a TV, so this only happens when I'm up late visiting my parents in the boondocks.
Peace.

Good for ya, man! As you know, it takes someone with that kind of energy and interest; I expect you to follow in Al Jaffe's footsteps and found Estimation Hall in Memphis!

You'll have $1000 waiting for you from me if you enlist and serve one stint in the U.S. Army infantry in Iraq. My nephew is a Lieutenant and a tank commander. He'll take good care of you.
Sorry Bloke,
I'm too chicken and too old now lucky for me. My brother in law got back from his tour in the Marines and I've heard enough stories. I'd never dodge the draft though, if/when I get called up, I'll be there. And this is coming from one of those liberal pacifists who would never try to get anyone else to go----which is my point about actors in case you missed it, and I'll say it again.
The p-------s of said actor bother me so much that I won't watch his movies. His deeds and actions were opposite of each other and through lies convinced others to do what he himself refused to do. We're not talking about 2 electrodes here, we're talking about something real, so when others refuse to go to movies of actors who are on an all night binge, I can refuse to go to movies with actors whose actions bother me and should bother any patriotic American.
Peace.

Really? I call it straight talk from someone using their own brain to think. What part of my posting was bold? I had higher hopes for your response, usually they're challenging, thought provoking, or infuriating. Not so much here. Maybe next time.
Peace.

Chill. The line is a quote from *one of your favorite actor's lesser of his not-particularly-impressive legacy of movies.
bloke "politics aside, I have never rented an old J.W. movies, nor sat around and watched them on anyone else's cable TV's. I have, however, rented a lot of old Broadway-musicals-made-into-movies...with (likely) sick puppy/kook actors/actresses who kept their views/habits to themselves"

Blokebaby,
I'm always chill, fun debating with you though. I've spent time with some of those actors, if you only knew the secrets I could blow my career over.....
Peace.
