"I Wanted a Tuba"

Does anyone know a jazz song called "I Wanted a Tuba"? I heard it several years ago, but I can't remember who wrote it.

It goes something like this: "I wanted a tuba. A tuba so badly..." It had a pretty good tuba solo in it too.

Perhaps, you're thinking of "Santa Wants A Tuba for Christmas", which was written by Norlan Bewley (I think) and sung by Harvey Phillips.

Thank you for your reply. But, that's not it. I think it's about a guy who wanted to play a tuba, and finally finds one at a pawn shop. If I remember it correctly, I found it at mp3.com longtime ago before it was shut down and came back up.

Okay, so after a few minutes on Google, I found that the song is written by Lenny Hat. He may be from Boston area. You can hear the tune at

Hey, bloke -- I resemble that remark! Except my dad played trumpet, not tuba, although my granddad did play sousaphone in school band! BTW - the description is not just rhyming song lyrics; in my experience it is absolutely true!
