Miraphone 1290 for sale

Hey all,

Alright, this is my last time to repost this.....If I don't get anything after a week, then I go to ebay.....

I am selling my Miraphone 1290 CC tuba. I bought it roughly 9 months ago. It is a 5/4 size tuba good for larger ensembles and some small ensemble work. Nice dark sound. The reason I am selling it is because I have found something that fits me a little better size wise. The horn does have signs of wear and tear, but nothing major, just the wear you get from normal useage. It comes with both a gig bag and an MTS case. I am asking $4300 + shipping for the whole lot. If you're considering upgrading to a larger CC tuba, you can't beat the deal on this one! Its in excellent condition and it plays huge! Very good pitch and snappy low register!

Is this a piston or rotor horn?

Justin, you saw this horn almost everyday when I owned it. It's 4 pistons, 1 rotor. This is my old Miraphone. Nice instrument and I had some pretty good audition success on it.

After Lee Stofer got through with it, this was a great horn. I only sold it at the time because I was doing so much bass trombone I thought I would be better off with a smaller tuba. 2 years later, I wound up getting a similar sized tuba (but with rotors and without a 3rd partial this time)
The horn is bigger than it looks in the first pic, the bell is almost 20". This pic has a toddler next to it for comparison.

This is a EXCELLENT horn! I am the previous owner before Rommel72. I only sold it because I was no longer playing in a large ensemble and needed money for moving after graduation. It felt very comfortable for me ergonomically (I'm 5-10, average build) if I sat the horn on the chair or on a stand. It does have a big sound and great low register. I like this horn better than any newer 1290 or 1291 I've played. Don't hesitate to try this one if your looking for a bigger CC. For the price, this is a steal!

BUMP for Rommel...

There were a couple of 1290 dogs floating around that gave this model a bad rep. BUT, There were also a couple of really good ones - this was one and Bob Joles had another. Mine was tweaked by Lee Stofer and Bob's by Rob Stewart. These are absolutely top notch horns for the serious college student / aspiring professional who cannot drop 12K on a horn.

P.S. I am 5'7" and never had any ergonomic issues, but I did use a DEG stand.

The 1290 has that "big tuba sound" - depth, richness, power, whatever you want to call it, that 4/4 horns such as the 186 and 2145 do not have. I am not talking sheer volume, I am talking about tone color. After all, we all know that you can peel paint with a 184, and that a bass trombone in the wrong hands is a weapon of mass destruction.

Don't let the funky open wrap scare you, this particular 1290 feels and plays like most other big piston horns costing a lot more $$$$.
