This whole thread has been mostly a grumpy rant from the first responder to my response now.

Given the amount of unhealthy hardware obsession this list contains, why not give someone a break who simply asks what the latest superstar uses.

Why is it OK for adults to get weak-kneed when discussing, for example, Alan Baer's signature tuba on other threads, while an innocent question, of a similar nature, meets with ridicule.

If the answer simply is to go practice more, well then tubenet would be a lonely place indeed.

Agreed. I don't really follow the pro tuba circuit too closely (as in, at all) but you can't fault someone for asking who plays what horn. I don't think this thread was started with the intention of finding out what her gear is, and they going out and purchasing such gear to make one better, etc.

It's like me asking a friend what kind of bass McCartney plays. Just because he has a Hafner doesn't mean I'd sound better with that than what I'm already using... I was just asking.

So after reading this whole topic, I've come to these conclusions:

1) I don't have her horns.
2) I don't have her awesomeness.
3) I don't have her job.
4) She's not going to marry me.
5) I have a sudden urge for some fajita tacos.

At least I can console myself with the tacos!

Are you quite positive about this, have you asked her?
Hey kids, she does view the board once in a while, show some respect.

And, perhaps a bigger factor than "Equipment" in her success:
.02 posts per day, or about 1 post every 50 days.
Hmmm, maybe she has something better to do??? (like practice???)

I'm going out on a date with a band teacher Friday night. She thinks my equipment is just fine.

I'd definitely buy a recording of Carol's performances of her transcriptions and arrangements for tuba (Khachaturian Violin Concerto, Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto, Harlem Nocturne, etc.).

If no label (Crystal Records, Mark Records, Summit, etc.) has already suggested releasing such a recording commercially, they're missing the boat.

I'm sure the moment Carol sees this thread she will be laughing hysterically at all of us.

That would be my guess, too, and I have never had the pleasure of meeting her.

And to Ralph...I'd be more inclined to buy a fajita taco right now than I would be to buy more tuba equipment.

To Carol...I hope you have a sense of humor about the posts on TubeNet that you are the subject of. Some of us may be a bit quirky, but overall we have the utmost respect for you.

Lisa, you must have been practicing Law far too long by now, to be able to fabricate such a statement when all the evidence is to the contrary!

I only fail to qualify on two of the above points(well, possibly three).

I can't speak for how she would feel about the constant references to marriage, but I have to wonder as a logical person, why don't the females who frequent this board jokingly reference marriage to attractive young male tuba players on a regular basis?
As a logical person, you might find it interesting to think of this as a function of random variation which produces the occasional fruitcake, applied to the male and female populations who frequent this board. We have basically one person who accounts for most of the references, except for just the latest one that prompted your question. Statistics with such small numbers are naturally sketchy, but clearly the odds are low that the smaller female population would also produce one or more such individuals, even if natural propensities were considered to be equal irrespective of gender.

I don't think females are out for hot young tuba players such as myself. :P They'd probably prefer hot young guys who make money.
