Where are you playing this 4th of July?

This is our bandstand on Euclid Ave. in Ontario, CA. We'll have about 40 people crammed on the stage and maybe a few more sticking out the front! As usual, tubas in the back with our necks in the sun...

. I'm in 2 community bands, and neither is playing on the 4th. Since we have performed on the 4th for many, many years, I'm sorta bummed out this year. For those who are playing - enjoy! I wish I could be with you

July 2nd at the Short Pump Mall with the "Old Dominion Brass."

July 4th at Dogwood Dell (as usual), outdoor amphitheater in Richmond to a crowd expected to be 30,000+.

July 3rd, Coolidge Park, Chattanooga TN.
CSO Pops concert.
A couple of marches, Overture to Candide, Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Ark, My Fair Lady, "The Flintstones meet the Jeffersons," Saving Private Ryan, and other crowd pleasers.
We will close with the obligatory 1812 Overture synched to live fireworks.
Concert starts at 8:00PM and is free; fireworks should begin around 9:30-9:40. The 2155R and I may try to give the fireworks a run for their money on the last page of 1812 if I don't get the hand.

Anyone TubeNetters in the Chatty area stop by and say Hi after the concert, maybe we could grab a soda or something (sorry, don't drink.)

The Old Dam Community Band http://www.olddamband.com has a 'fireworks' gig on the evening of the 3rd at a retirement village on the west end of Evansville. Of the 4th we have a 4th of July parade at 4pm in hometown Newburgh and will also perform before the fireworks later that evening. We're having a family picnic between the parade and fireworks concert. It's always busy around here in July! It's all free stuff.... but loads of fun!

In the morning, I'll be on a long truck in my own town playing two marches over and over again until we reach the end of the parade (freebie).

In the afternoon, I'll be marching with a sousaphone in another suburb of Chicago (paid).

In the evening, I'll be playing light classics, show tunes and patriotic songs in the FullScore Chamber Orchestra (paid) in the band shell of yet another suburb of Chicago.

Holiday, shmoliday. I'll be workin', but I'm not complainin'!

I'll be in Connecticut eating steak and trying not to be hung over for the wednesday matinee. Of course I know I'll get a last minute call on the weekend, but unless they got $$'s++ I might just be too busy, trying to get a tan.......

I'm playing at the "I Love America" celebration in Springfield, MO, with a church orchestra. Not a lot of Americana music, but it will be fun, and my first paid gig in Missouri!

Don't have a gig on the 4th so we are going to meet, barbeque, swill beer and yes (who woulda thought) rehearse some stuff for our second-all in studio- Creekers C.D.. It's past time for our second C.D., all the tunes are selected and a little more polish is indicated before we hit the studio.
Then we will all jump in Kurt's boat, ( he's the one with the 36 footer) and motor out and watch the fireworks go off from the Fairhope pier-(big fun unless the fireworks are popping directly overhead and firey stuff is falling down amongst us).

Playing with the Stillwater Community Band on the pier of lovely Boomer Lake in Stillwater, Oklahoma on the night of the 4th. Good patriotic fare...American Overture for Band, America the Beautiful, March Grandioso, and of course Stars and Stripes Forever. A couple of strange inserts...Holst First Suite in F, Amazing Grace, and music from "Pirates of the Caribbean."

I also managed to get my arrangement of Carnival of Venice Variations for solo tuba and band in there... I was gonna play it on one of the school's sousaphones, but it's just not practical on a 20K (does anybody like those short-stroke valves?). I'm using a Yamaha YBB201 instead...nice small bore for clarity and lightning fast piston valves. I got to do it since we played a concert tonight in my hometown of Ponca City, and we're using the same concert on the 4th. Yippee!!!

July 4 I'll be at Lebanon Oregon playing with the Linn Benton Concert Band.

We play in a "mobile stage". They take two open-sided 48 foot semi trailers and park them side by side. The space between the trailers is covered by pieces of plywood. The fun part is that we play Star and Stripes during the beginning of the fireworks. We are about 100 feet from the fireworks staging area. I usually end up near the gap in the side between trailers closest to the staging area so I get the impact of the concussion of the fireworks going off.

Beautiful downtown Ennis, Montana (pop. 840) for the parade (riding on a truck, of course) and a post-parade concert in the park.

Actually, I'll be playing on the 3rd for a rehearsal of my FD band. We're trying out the Manhattan Beach March for the first time.

For the 4th, I'll be grilling burgers and watching the fireworks. I also hope to play an old video from 1982 which has an 18 year old Matt Dillon playing the sousaphone. I kid you not! It's titled "Jean Shepards Great American Fourth of July and Other Disasters."

We were in Bucharest, Romania at the US Ambassador's residence. Romania's president, prime minister, and ministry of defense chief of staff were in attendance as well.

Well.... the fireworks in Newburgh on the 4th got re-scheduled because of the threat of severe storms. We still had our picnic and did an outdoor 'rehearsal', anyway. The fireworks (and concert) have been scheduled for Friday (July 7th) at 7:30pm on the riverfront. C'mon down!
