That Darn Cat! (trombone bell repair question)

Dog chases cat in house - cat jumps up to speaker on stand in music room - then to top of television on top of stereo rack (7 feet high) - then jumps to floor from seven feet up - but on way down knocks valve trombone hanging on hook in ceiling - trombone has fall to ground broken by bell hitting conga drum - conga drum fine - trombone fine -except for bell getting creamed. Good news is trombone missed tuba on floor by about a foot

This is an old horn (1909 or so) that was in good shape and played well, but flat (don't all valve trombones) and probably is not that valuable. I'd like to keep it in presentable shape if posssible without pouring a lot of money into it beyond what it's worth.

Having never gotten a bell rolled out before (tuba or otherwise) - is this an expensive repair for a trombone?

no, it's cheap... but if you'd like someone to trimyour tuning slide so your horn isn't flat, that would cost more.

If it's bad, we could probably roll your bell out for 20 Bucks, CDN funds.

If it was built around the turn of the 20th century, it may have been built to A=435

Depends on which note you are playing, usually the only note in tune is the one you tuned too!

depends what you're using.... many people put a 6.5 AL on their valve bone... 12c is about right seeing that the biggest piston vbone on the market now is .500 bore, most are smaller... .484 and such. With the right piece on it, anda decent vbone, it's about as accurate tuningwise as a decent 3 valve euphonium.
