Unconditional love and companionship any time of the day.

Bloke, I wish I could live out my remaining days with no pets whatsoever.
However we are part of a minute segment of humanity.
Reasons people tell me they must have dogs:
1. Security; that barking may serve to warn of unwelcome strangers.
2. Company; even if your personal idiosyncracies would abrade the hide off a rhinocerous, a dog is still glad to see you.
3. Substitutes for not squeezing out children; childless couples need dogs to dote on and to spend their money for goofy treats and odd clothing.
4. Hunting and pest control; they're noisy hunters but some people like having their animal drag a fresh killed carcass into the house.
Do they have any other positive attributes? Not for me they don't.

- stink up houses
- crap in yards without covering it up
- are transported by their owners to OTHER PEOPLE'S yards to crap as well :x
- eat far too much food
- have very high vet bills
- die at just about the time that their owners manage to train them to behave
- uncontrollably put their paws on the clothes, their tongues on the hands, and their noses on the genitals of humans
- bark when strangers approach, but also bark at all other times
- accost and bite (occasionally kill) people who mean them no harm
- encourage lawsuits
Hey, WATCH IT! You know that tuba players are often described this way, too! :D
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

This could take care of the problem... If that doesn't work, try the next one!

Have had 4 dogs over the past 22 years. All have been english bulldogs. Technically not good security dogs, but great watchdogs. They watch a lot of stuff happen.

You're right, Joe! Dogs suck. If you need critters around to make noise when folks come on the property, get yourself a couple of guinea hens or some of those funky white geese. Oh! that's right! You didn't like the guinea hens, either! Did they taste like chicken!

I plan on getting a Husky and training him to pull a shovel accross the driveway... dogs will do anything for steak!

A boy, his tuba, and his dog.

IS there anything more wholesome?

And yes, they do die. Orson (in the top picture) left the building earlier this year. Liver gave out after 14 1/2 years.

Hmmm, Joe. The same list might well apply to "kids" and "relatives"...

For use as a scapegoat for flatulence. I have two "fall guys" on staff here at my house that I use regularly for this purpose.
