Nice article and pictures of you in the Marine Band newsletter Cameron. Looking forward to hearing you peform this October at the Kravis Center, West Palm Beach, FL.

Principal tuba MSgt Cameron Gates will perform the first movement from Edward Gregson's Tuba Concerto

They really do a nice job with the newsletter. A nice touch was last January's fold out calendar with a nice picture of the band. Kudos to the editors.

How's that for a shameless plug?
I know the tour band guys( MSgt Cameron Gates, soon-to-be GySgt Frank Crawford, and SSgt Chris Tiedeman) are looking forward to touring Florida, give 'em a shout out when they come to town! And if you are told that all the tix are gone, go anyway if it's not too much of a drive. It seems there's almost always a few seats that are empty, unclaimed seats open to the public 15 minutes before show time.
BTW, the section actually prefers to call Cameron, "El Soloeest Magnifico!"

Aside from West Palm Beach where else in Florida are you performing?

Hey Tom! How's life on the boat?
All the tour stuff is in the newsletter. I didn't find it on the website yet, but maybe it'll be posted soon. Seeing as I'll be staying home, my knowledge of all the tour stops is not that great.

My wife and I attended the USMC band concert yesterday at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, FL. What a wonderful concert! Thanks to all the members of the USMC band for making it a very enjoyable afternoon!

MSgt. Cameron Gates did a fantastic job on the 1st movement of "Gregson's Tuba Concerto"! Great tone, projection and technique. I forgot the name of the encore piece he played, but is was excellent as well. Standing up to play that piece without a strap had to be difficult. The multi-phonics near the end of the encore added a nice touch. I'm sure there weren't many in the audience that knew how difficult that was. (The few times I've tried to do that, I thought I was going to swallow my epiglottis)

At intermission, I got to meet briefly with Cameron Gates and Philip Franke (euph). Thanks guys for taking the time to meet with the public. (Cameron even called me by nameâ€”which blew me away.TubeNet avatars at work here)

SSgt AnnaMaria Mottola's performance of Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" with the band was a big hit as well! The most applause was for Cameron and AnnaMaria I think.... then at the end where we were trying to get another encore.

I have to comment on how proud I was of the S. Florida audience when it was announced that the band was going to play a tribute piece to the men and women in uniform (Armed Forces Salute). They interrupted the announcer with applause and then jumped to their feet and continued clapping and cheering. Having been in the service during Vietnam war, it's nice to see this response.
