Online backup recommendations

Post by Chuck(G) »

I need to recommend a service or two for a modest (< 1GB) online backup for a friend of mine.

Does anyone have any experience with these outfits (such as xdrive.com, ibackup.com, etc.)? Are there any that you'd wholeheartedly recommend?

It seems to me that there was a decent review of online backup systems in PC Magazine within the last year.

I've never really considered online backup because of the size of my backups and my connection speeds; so I have no personal experience.

Unless it is for person to person file transfer, I'd just buy a 1GB flash drive and use a sync utility. <$50

You don't know this person. He has trouble hanging on to a laptop and is certain to lose a flash drive.

I note that Inbox.com offers a free backup service in connection with their email.

I put an external drive on my machine and use Norton Save and Restore to do a backup on to it every night at about 2 am. Works fine as long as there are no fires - then I have a CD backup every so often.
