Charley Brighton posted a recording of a beautiful piece by John Rutter a few months ago.

Amazing Grace.

There are several good arrangements for tuba of Ave Maria, both Bach/Gounod and Shubert.

Boosey & Hawkes publishes a good tuba/piano book of Copland music with Simple Gifts in it.

Inciting worship

Some suggestions:

"Love Bade Me Welcome" from 5 Mystical Songs - Vaughan Williams

Faure also wrote a lovely liturgical piece called "In Prayer" that works fine on euphonium.

Although not originally composed for the church, many Bach pieces work, e.g. Air for the G String; also the Bach Cello Suites are eminently playable and work very nicely on tuba or euphonium.

Really trying to get the spirit moving, or causing a riot? Sorry, couldn't resist.

With no words, about anything of the appropriate length, or even an excerpt, of just about anything from the classical literature will do very nicely.

David E Smith Publishers is a good source for sacred music.

A few thought starters:

Look for transcriptions of pieces written a few centuries ago where many composers wrote at least some for church settings.

Bach -- almost anything
Alleluia (Mozart)
Handel -- pick something from Messiah
Gabrieli?

How 'bout "Just a Closer Walk With Thee"? Lends itself to a slow / fast approach. Same for "When the Saints Go Marching In", or any tune that has been done in a Dixieland style.

How about looking through a hymnal from another Christian denomination or "branch". If you're Protestant, seek out a Catholic hymnal, or vise versa. If you're a Baptist, look for a Methodist hymnal. "Salvation is Created" by Tschesnokoff exists in a great quintet arrangement by Vernon M. Whaley (SBW & Associates / Integra Music publishers). Tschesnokoff composed for the Russian Orthodox Church.

For something "completely different", you could try Ain't Misbehavin' ....
