My thoughts exactly, as I was listening to them!They need a BAT player to properly balance the group.
I came across this Vasen CD as I was searching Amazon to see if Vartina had anything new. They do ... but it isn't really new. Their Kokko CD is enough for me. The listing of "People who bought this also bought ... etc." section on Amazon leads from one thing to another until one eventually finds something one likes. I like this CD. I ordered a few more "Nordic" folk CDs while I was at it. And one can get it for a very reasonable price from the "Used and New" vendors.

If it's early music we're talking about, then may I direct your attention to the following entree from Ensemble Unicorn

By the way, I recently acquired soprano and tenor crumhorns. I swore I'd stick to recorders and avoid crumhorns, but the price was right, and I had not bought any thing in a while. So it was either crumhorns or another tuba. The crumhorns were cheaper and take up a lot less space.

Not satisfied with leaving bad enough alone, they took the design and refined it to become the chanter for the Great Highland pipes.Crumhorns: The Renaissance's joke on the music world;
