Markus Hötzel's tuba...
I have a DVD of the NDR-Sinfonieorchster under Gunter Wand of Bruckner 8. Mr. Hotzel is playing a Rudy Meinl 5/4. It is a 5 valve, does anyone know if its a CC or BBb? He sounds AMAZING. Especially at the end of the first movement. I recommend watching it. All I can say is...damn.

I think...
that it's a Fafner BB tuba. I did not see this DVD, but as far as I know he plays a Fafner.

Off topic. But see Markus playing his new F-tuba at Melton (MW).

Here is a ROUGH translation(no grammar help).
"On the passage of a Mugge in Lübeck coming and on the way to Vienna and Paris with the Viennese philharmonics under the direction of Zubin Mehta the Tubist Markus Hötzel of the NDR-Sinfonieorchester Hamburg made on the 7 June a between stop in the Wenzel Meinl gmbh in Geretsried in order to try its new F-tuba 45SLZ, that is after own statements "very homogeneous in the sound, and especially in that Full sounds"!
Then another fast handle to its beloved Melton Fafner tuba, that "like a rock in the surf lies" and on that "one itself 100% leave can!" Testing abundant after some hours and practicing Markus Hötzel is fit for the Sinfonia Domestica by Richard bouquet (op. 53 of 1902/03)!"
SO... It is a new version of the 45SLZ.
