Non resident MM?????

Post by bigboymusic »

Has anyone out there ever gotten a non-resident MM in tuba. Basically, a MM without being a full time student the whole 32 hours. I have had a couple schools venture into talks, but it is VERY hard to get past the requirement of being in an ensemble every semester you take lessons. One school is considering moving the ensemble requirement to fit into a one year period within the 7 year limit to finish. Any ideas?

I think it depends on wether the degree is in Performance or Education.

Yes, oh Nate! one. It is I. And yes, to the previous. Performing is the main goal, but in some instances, you can find just as much performance time in the free lance world as the college ranks. Just not every day ensemble playing. While I would LOVE to do that, my career right now won't allow a full two years and then three for a DMA. But yes to james, performing is the main goal.

What is the difference between a masters in perfomance and a large pizza? A large pizza can feed a family of four......

I meant this from the university's point of view.

I agree. I am aware that most Universities will have the same view. I have had a couple instructors inform me that they would be willing, but the getting past the Graduate Studies gurus is the main problem. I'm looking for a way right now to get my MM (perf) with as little resident time so I can give the time to the DMA.
